Shelbourne Motors Changing Lives One Mile at a time
Last Saturday almost 50 cyclists from Shelbourne Motors took part in a 22 mile sponsored bike ride from Newry to Portadown. The aim of the event was to raise money for local charity Changing Lives Projects whose directors John & Kathleen Duke have been working in Africa for over 12 years.
Changing Lives Projects supports a variety of projects both home and abroad that provide for disadvantaged children. This particular event, organised by George McMahon , Sales Manager in Shelbourne Motors and his wife Lynn with the help of Shelbourne staff was to raise money for a vehicle for the schools in Uganda. George & Lynn are part of a team who will travel to Uganda with Changing Lives Projects at the end of August to work in schools in rural villages. Many of these villages have none of the commodities we take for granted such as running water and electricity. The team will be completing work in schools such as putting in cement floors, painting walls and also visiting the Changing Lives Chicken Project.
This project involves purchasing day old chicks and raising them to laying stage when the eggs are a source of protein for the 1500 children in the care of The Agape Schools and extra eggs are sold to help assist with teachers salaries. Over two thirds of the children in the Agape schools are orphans so it is essential we raise the money to continue the work in these schools.
Changing Lives Projects would like to thank George & Lynn for organising the event and all those who took part in the sponsored bike ride or helped on the day. Thank you to all our sponsors- Toyota UK, Shelbourne Motors, Forthill Farm, Lynas Foods, Kitchen Bakes and Portadown Rugby Club for the use of their grounds for a barbecue.
